Top 20 Things Users Hate About Your Mobile App

17 Dec 2019

For app developers, Mobile UX design is an ever-raging battle. Get it wrong and all the long, back-breaking hours of planning and coding goes down the drain.

To help you stay on the right side of your users, fine-tune user experience and provide the perfect experience; here are some of the things mobile app users hate.

1. Providing zero value with the app — your app must solve a problem. It’s either it makes your user’s life easier, or it educates or entertains them. Anything short of this your app will be un-installed as fast as it is installed.

2. Pushy request to leave a review — if a user loves an app, they would want to recommend it for others. Don’t push it.

3. Excessive begging to follow company accounts on social media — users can get disillusioned if you keep pestering them to follow or like your social media page.

4. Intrusive advertising — sure you want to make money off your app. But once the ads start hampering user experience, you’re on your way out.

5. Difficulty to view content on the app — if the user has to zoom in before they can read content on the app; then it is a no-no.

6. Annoying push notifications — the constant buzzing of the phone can be off-putting and a surefire way to get your app uninstalled.

7. If the app harvests user’s information without permission.

8. Requests too many permissions — apps that request access to user phone’s recorder, media, location, and other features are likely going to be uninstalled.

9. Freezing apps — Nobody is going to wait around for your app if it keeps freezing on startup.

10. Poor User Interface — sure your app might provide a ton of value; has excellent features but if the user can’t figure out how to use it; if the mobile UX is weak, then they wouldn’t hesitate to uninstall it.

11. Heavy battery usage — An app user will not think twice to delete the app if they discover the app eats up battery.

12. Buggy apps — Well, no one will knowingly install a buggy app on their phone regardless of how useful the app is supposed to be. And in case the app was installed, they will delete it before you say, Jack.

13. Slow responsiveness — slow apps are annoying. Optimizing your app and ensuring it is fast before shipping is key to retaining users.

14. Constant crashing — Imagine using an app and in the middle of something it crashes, what do you do delete the app?

15. Unresponsive support — especially for premium apps. Customers expect 24/7 fast, helpful support to walk them through any challenge they may have with your app. And if for whatever reason they don’t get it, they delete the app.

16. Bulky app — App users often have second thoughts about massive apps that take a lot of memory space. And once the app becomes wieldy, they uninstall it.

17. Boxed copies of a website — If your app is a boxed version of your website, your customers will notice it and may not appreciate it.

Other things your users might hate include:

18. Lack of updates for apps

19. Unsecured apps

20. If there’s a complicated process before one can sign up to use the app.
